To the East our au pairs can be found close to the German border in Winterswijk and North of Amsterdam you can find House-o-Orange Au Pairs and nannies in Alkmaar and surrounding areas.

How we work
A placement will always be initiated with a home visit and if you are interested in hosting an au pair or an international nanny, give us a call so that we can set up an appointment free of charge (apart from travelling costs).
As for our au pairs and nannies; we are known for our native English speaking girls from South Africa (where we have our second office in the Cape Town area) Namibia and the USA but we also have a great selection of au pair girls from South and Middle America, Asia, Russia and the Ukraine as well as Europe. Or if you are looking for a German girl to start in September or a Spanish speaking girl from Mexico, House-o-Orange can help.

Our team is professional, experienced and we can take care of most of your live-in childcare needs. Our team is fully bilingual and we welcome expats to contact us for more info.

Exposure to a different culture

An Au Pair can introduce your child to another culture and language. If you hire native speakers (English, Spanish, French for instance) your child will easily learn more languages or retain fluency in a language they already know. They will also be able to become truly bilingual or even trilingual and will have first hand exposure to another culture. All of this will improve their knowledge of diversity and the wider world and will help them grow and flourish.

Laundry, meals and room pickup

Au Pairs can help with household duties that are preferably primarily related to the children. This includes light housework such as laundry and ironing, cooking, cleaning up after meals and tidying up. Imagine coming home and being able to spend quality time with your kids instead of worrying about what to eat or doing the washing.

Lifelong friends

The relationship you and your children build with your Au Pair often lasts long after your Au Pair returns home.

Gaining an extended family that spans the globe is more rewarding than you can imagine! Many of our families have travelled to the Au Pair’s country of origin, have attended weddings, spent vacations there and much more.

Date nights.. or back to the gym

During the day your Au Pair can pick up the children from school, nursery or preschool but they can also babysit at night if you would like to go on a date, have a work function or would like to get back into shape. This means that, when you go out in the evenings, you don’t need to worry about leaving your children with an unfamiliar babysitter.

Monique (South Africa)

Since I was in High School, I remembered wanting to become an Au Pair one day. After school, I went to study and immediately after found a job. I never forgot about my dream to become an Au Pair however.

I always saw the photos and memories of my friends being Au Pairs and would ask myself ‘Why not me? Why can they do it and not me? In the end I realized that I was the only one standing in my own way.

My age was something that made me question if this was the right decision. I felt too old to be an Au Pair, even though I was only 24 when I started my Au Pair year. With the help of House O Orange Au pairs, I could live out my dream of traveling Europe and calling it my home for a year. I’ve seen the most beautiful countries and met people from all over the world.

I got to explore The Netherlands and truly embrace the Dutch culture; from celebrating festive days like Kings day, driving my bike in the wind and rain and eating all the types of cheese you can think of!

This experience has definitely made me a stronger, more independent woman. I’ve learned so much about myself and in the process made life long friends!

Living abroad showed me how much the world has to offer and gave me an enormous love for traveling.

House-o-Orange Au pairs was amazing throughout the whole process and I would not have been here if it wasn’t for them – so thank you HOO!!

Remember; in the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take!

Why did you want to become an au pair?
I really wanted to see a lot of Europe, improve my English language skills and meet new friends and challenge myself to start this new adventure.

What do you like best about being an au pair?
I really loved meeting my family and their children and seeing how they reacted to me. I also love living in a different country and meeting new people. Building a bond with my host family and their children has been amazing!

What has this experience taught you up to now?
To be patient! That’s something that I really learned and also to think more positively. I am able to stand on my own two feet and I have gained confidence. I also find communicating a lot easier now, it’s not all that scary!

Are you happy with House-o-Orange and our support?
Yes, very happy! I like that they are in regular contact with me and check to see how I’m doing. It’s also very nice to know that there is always someone there for you when needed.

Ralitza (Namibia)

Why did you want to become an au pair?
My motivation to become an au pair was to allow other children the same kind of happiness during childhood that I had. I basically wanted to give them the best childhood experience. I had quite a lot of childcare experience and when I learned that House-o-Orange was accepting candidates from Namibia, it was an easy decision.  I was only 18 yrs old when I started my au pair adventure and it has been nothing short of amazing!

What did you like best about being an au pair?
Now that I’m back in Namibia and able to reflect on my year, I don’t even know where to start!  I saw Europe in a way that I could never have imagined, travelled through Holland, spent my summer days strolling through the streets of Portugal, met interesting people and made new friends wherever I went.

Are you happy with House-o-Orange and our support?
Of course! House-o-Orange was there for me along the way and invited me to all of their events which I happily did – I even spent time in a hot tub at the Orange Au Pair Club’s Braai even. Who would have thought?

Would you recommend House-o-Orange and the au pair program in Holland?
I would recommend this experience to anyone!
